Our Rabbi
Rabbi Yonah Gross
Rabbi Yonah Gross became the Rabbi of Congregation Beth Hamedrosh in December 2009 and since that time has energized Beth Hamedrosh, leading its development as a center for programming and as a welcoming shul for all Jews on Philadelphia’s ‘Main Line.’
In addition to leading Beth Hamedrosh, Rabbi Gross is the Administrator for Community Kashrus of Greater Philadelphia (Keystone-K) and is the founder of Mezuzah and More where he checks, sells, and consults on mezuzos, tefillin, and other items.
Rabbi Gross previously served as Rabbi of the Young Israel of Phoenix, and, under his leadership, the shul experienced dynamic growth. Prior to living in Phoenix, Rabbi Gross was a Senior Rabbinic Intern at the Riverdale Jewish Center. Rabbi Gross also interned as a chaplain at the Zicklin Hospice in Riverdale, addressing both halachic and pastoral end of life issues.
A native of Queens, New York, Rabbi Gross was educated through the Yeshiva Day School system, attended Yeshiva University High School and College, and received rabbinic ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS), as well an MS in Counseling from Pace University. At RIETS, Rabbi Gross studied under Rav Herschel Schachter, Rav Mordechai Willig and Rav Zvi Sobolofsky. He also undertook special study in the area of Taharas HaMishpacha, the laws of family purity, through The Puah Institute for Medicine & Fertility in Accordance with Halacha.
Rabbi Gross is married to Chava, a practicing pharmacist originally from Teaneck, New Jersey. Chava has greatly impacted Beth Hamedrosh with her leadership in women’s educational and social programming. The Grosses are blessed with five delightful children, Yehoshua, Tuvya, Shira, Yosef, and Rivka.

House of Kosher Helps CBH
House of Kosher has instituted a program that could be of great benefit to the shul. This will give our members an opportunity to help our congregation without added cost or effort.
On any amount that a member spends, House of Kosher will give 2% of the sale right back to the shul! All that is needed is to mention our synagogue’s unique Shopper Code and the discount is immediately applied as a credit to Beth Hamedrosh.
CBH’s code is 6444,
easy to remember, as it is the last four digits of the shul’s phone number.
HoK has added an incentive for any first-time customer from Beth Hamedrosh. The member will receive a 10% discount on a
